A study published in the International Journal of Molecular Sciences led by Dr. Mabel Vidal from the University of Concepcion in collaboration with researchers from the MELISA Institute and other academic institutions reported a unique genetic signature among subsets of infiltrating T cells of different types of cancer after analyzing data from a public repository, including CD4-T, CD8-T cells, and Treg.

T lymphocytes are the main actors in the recognition of pathogenic antigens or neoplastic transformation, and they can be divided into three main subpopulations, namely cytotoxic CD8+ T cells, which destroy the pathogenic agents, auxiliary CD4+ T cells, which participate in the differentiation of different effector lineages, and Tregs, which regulate or modulate the immune response, respectively.

The researchers found a common signaling pathway among different types of cancer and found that the signaling of cytokines mediating the TH2 response has increased. Dr. Vidal stated that the study was conducted in a machine-learning context, so the next step will be to model it in a deep-learning context and generate new models that are more accurate for single-cell analysis.
